i just bought an 07 street bob about a month ago. the dealer told me i had to do 1000 mile service at the dealership or the warranty is void. i think that is BS. anyone know if this is true?
It is not just a fluid change.
Can your do it yourself? Sure get the manual, and a few tools.
You will need two types of torque wrenches. foot pounds and inch pounds.
A set of torx bits. Make sure this set has a 25 and a 27.
They need to be tempered. In fact you mignt want to buy 2 of the 25 and 27.
Make sure the Torx bit is the right size for the bolt or screw.
This is the 1000 check list.
Change fluids and oil filter. Primary, engine, transmission
Inspect and clean air filter
Inspect the oil lines for leaks
Check and tighten spokes if necessary

I stated it was fluid changes and inspection, which for the most partit is. Yes, thereare some adjustments if necessary. Mostly, you're checking, inspecting, andtightening fasteners because not much will need adjusted. Most, if not all fastenerswill fall within spec and won't need tightened. Some "adjustments" would be the steering head bearing whichrarely, if ever needs adjustment after 20,000 miles let alone 1000, and theclutch, brake, and throttle. Andagain, thesefall within spec. And HD techs do not take a torque wrench to all these fasteners. Some they do, most they check and tighten the way we all do, by feel. "Yep, that's tight."
This 1000 miles service is more for dealer profit padding than anything else. It's just like the extended warranty, a cash cow for the dealer and the F&I guy.
