Welcome to the forum!!!!

You can do you can do your own and it will not void the warrenty. I did bring mine in for the first one though, just so they could really go over the bike. In the front of your manual it has the list of nesc things to do.

Ryan,

It's a simple fluid change and inspection. Do it yourself and save the dough.

Just take it in and have them do it (just the first one) buy the service manual and some NEEDED tools, ask questions on the HD forum were all here to help and in another 2500/3000 miles D I Y except for the warrenty work if needed. You'll feel good nowing that the job you just did was done right
Enjoy the new ride!!!!!!

I just dropped mine off tonite for my 1k and I only did it to save time and I don't have all the tools nessacary to check everything just yet. It's only costing me the price of the fluids so it'll be less than a hundred bucks total. I'm letting them do the first for warranty bs and to be quite honest, I don't have a lot of free time to be wrenchin' right now. It's killing me because I am the only person who has put a wrench to her since I got it and it is weird to let anyone else work on her.

I'm suffering from a little seperation anxiety right now.

I had the dealer do my first one.

It is not just a fluid change.

Can your do it yourself? Sure get the manual, and a few tools.

You will need two types of torque wrenches. foot pounds and inch pounds.
A set of torx bits. Make sure this set has a 25 and a 27.
They need to be tempered. In fact you mignt want to buy 2 of the 25 and 27.

Make sure the Torx bit is the right size for the bolt or screw.

This is the 1000 check list.

Change fluids and oil filter. Primary, engine, transmission
Inspect and clean air filter
Inspect the oil lines for leaks
Check and tighten spokes if necessary
Check and adjust the clutch
Inspect and adjust rear belt and sprockets
Inspect and lubricate jiffy stand
Inspect fuel lines for leaks
Check brake fluid level and condition
Inspect brake pads and disk for wear
Check all electrical switches
Adjust steering head bearing
Check tightness of critical fasteners
Check Ride

No one stated it was just a fluid change.

I stated it was fluid changes and inspection, which for the most partit is. Yes, thereare some adjustments if necessary. Mostly, you're checking, inspecting, andtightening fasteners because not much will need adjusted. Most, if not all fastenerswill fall within spec and won't need tightened. Some "adjustments" would be the steering head bearing whichrarely, if ever needs adjustment after 20,000 miles let alone 1000, and theclutch, brake, and throttle. Andagain, thesefall within spec. And HD techs do not take a torque wrench to all these fasteners. Some they do, most they check and tighten the way we all do, by feel. "Yep, that's tight."

This 1000 miles service is more for dealer profit padding than anything else. It's just like the extended warranty, a cash cow for the dealer and the F&I guy.
