Just so you know barrel locks like Harley uses are the weakest and easiest to pick locks out there. I can turn the ignition on my bike with a pick in the same speed as i can with the key.

As far as the OP and other people asking i have gotten replacement keys from the HD shop for like $10 for 2. i just gave them the code, on my spare keyring there was a plastic dangler that had the key code on it. and they ordered it and a couple weeks later they called me and said the key was there. No registration or ID required, but this was also in AK where everyone is pretty relaxed. In the meantime while i was waiting for a key i would either use my hotwire switch or a lockpick to turn the bike on.

Hotwire switch = switch i made that plugs into the main wiring harness in the place of the key switch with a simple 2 way switch that turns on/off the ignition line just like the ignition would.

There are fewer key codes used than most may think.

Barrel locks where replaced on Kryptonite chain locks because a ball point pen can open it in seconds.

The key code is on your original key. Look under the plastic cover. Record it someplace.

Keycode you will get from the original key and an auto locksmith can make a new key by using that key code.

So how do you get keys if you don't have an original to get the key code from?
The bike I bought didn't come with keys and my dealer won't order until I show a title in my name.
I have the title signed over to me but I don't plan to register any time soon.

Can you title it without registering it?

I just got a set from the Durham, NC dealer 2 weeks ago. They used the VIN and the 2 new keys work fine (4 days to get them and about $30.)

There's a locksmith here in town that will cut barrel keys from an original. The places that just cut keys don't seem to be able to do it though, only a licensed locksmith. YMMV.

If you wanted to steal a Harley ,I guess you could obtain a random Harley key, then try it every time uou walked past a Harley. After a few years you might get lucky I guess. I'm lucky to have a LOJACK. I get an instant text, email. And phone call if I even sit on my bike without the security FOB in my pocket
