We all feel your pain robbyville, I have spent in the 30-45 min range too massaging these tb's multiple times, so here is a few tips from my end that may help.
Don't undo the rockers/heads
make sure the gaskets are in right way and snug
make sure the open gap end of flange is on primary side
start the AIR cleaner side first after the tb is seated (should be slight click sound)
start the AC side very carefully making sure you're in straight and after 4-5 threads go to primary side
start primary ones by massaging the open ended flange bolt holes to line up
work the bolts in slowly..STRAIGHT then I like to tighten all down gradually alternately like an exhaust install.
number 1 you can't get upset and force it in, deep breathes and zen like focus.
Thanks all. Decided to stop for the day, of course that means I got nothing done oh well. At least my son finally decided to re-learn how to ride his bike so I got to cruise the neighborhood with the family!
I'll try the suggestions and maybe take the covers off just to have the room. I like the idea of putting the back plate on so that I have more leverage too
Had a nice little Eureka this morning, since it fit without the gaskets and I couldn't get them to completely sit flush. I ended up adding a tiny bit of lube to the front of the gaskets so that I could get a tiny bit of movement against the engine head (I was told that the silicone would dissipate and not affect the seal). I was able to finally get the front bolts in and then finagle the slotted sides to see things my way... although it's now time for work at least I feel like I'm on the home stretch.
There is still a tiny bit of give on the throttle body even those the bolts are nice and tight. I assume this is the reason for the support plate?
Also for today's malfunction...
Could someone please take a pic of the top motor mount stabilizer where it connects to the backbone? I'm following the diagram in my service manual but it just doesn't seem quite right. I know that I kept all the right pieces just need to check the order i.e.
Bolt head/Washer against backbone tab, then stabilizer, then conical spacer, then nut. The way I have it laid out makes me think that I'm going to have some gaps.
I found a pic of the mount as well on HD Pilot's build thread so I think I'm good there as well.
Next question concerns locktite. I ran out so just got some more of the 243 blue. I did not put any on the Throttle body fasteners since it wasn't mentioned in the service manual, nor on the top engine mount.
That being said I know many here do a dab on any fastener, have most of you used locktite on TB's and engine mount, I don't mind going back if I need to.
I use Blue alot even though the SM says nothing but I would not go back and uninstall anything unless you saw thread lock or the SM says to use it.
That's what I wanted to hear! I have more now. It was thinking of those stupid throttle body screws that was about to drive me to the brink...
Hey thanks by the way once again for the awesome pics during your engine build. There was a great one there of the top engine stabilizer to make sure I had mine set up right.
So technically I'm in the homestretch. The infamous pushrods (I've already gone back to your original advice almost a year ago), AC and breathers, Exhaust, and tank then I think I'll be ready to start her up. I also did the wiring for the PV
Robby, I was on the phone w/ fueling other day.... they do have brand new additions... they got ignition maps on their website. With the p.vision and the 574 cam. So if your indy can't get you in for a few check them out. They do have good tech and seem to really cater to the Vision, PC5, and TTS Master Tune.

To a STAGE 3 Texas Speed Cam I purchased for my 2011 LS3 Camaro. LOL!

I can't tell everyone how happy I am to have this TB issue behind me. The cams, heads, everything was so simple, it's amazing how the frustrations added up with the TB. Looking forward to buttoning everything up

Yes, I am a big picture taker, glad they helped you out. I cannot count the times I have looked back at my old pics and others I have from this forum to help me through an issue.
Take it slow on the pr adjustment too, always be sure all bases are covered as you progress - instead of "measure twice, cut once", I like to "think twice, perform one step". Keep looking out for a missed, step...
