I started stripping the tank last night. An hour with multiple applications of aerosol aircraft stripper left me with vaguely softened paint, so I broke out the sanding discs. Spent half an hour or so crouched over it before my back and the available light said it was time to quit. Got it probably 80% down to bare metal when I came in for the night.
Little did I know it the Heavens were going to open up and deliver a 25 year flood and my ****-box garage roof would decide to spring a leak right over my bare metal tank.
Now I'm pissed. plus, I couldn't get down in the weld seams and nooks/n/crannies, So F'k it. I'm sending it off to Pro-Strip next week to have it dipped.

Sounds like a pain-in-the-*** night... I guess dipping is the right move now. I once sandblasted a tank and frame successfully, but since they were both being fully molded prior to paint it didn't matter if the surface was a little bit coarse in places... It also probably took a lot longer than dipping will.
You may have already mentioned it, but what's your plan for paint?
Still waffling back and forth. I'm not at all confident I'll ever add a rear fender so that leaves the tank as the only tin so I'm finding it hard to picture anything other than black. I'd really rather something like an antique white, sepia, or caramel. I just can't picture it. Once it get closer I'll take a good pic with a clean background and do the photoshop work to help me decide.
Until then, I'm kinda leaning on vivid black with a modified version of this on the sides:

I know the feeling... The other night we got hit with the heaviest rain I've seen in awhile. Sometimes my garage roof leaks, sometimes it doesn't... This time it did. Directly over a drain pan that had close to a quart of oil in it... It filled up and overflowed... Fortunately there was a lot of cardboard under it which soaked up a bunch of the oily water, and the rest will wipe off of the floor. I'm constantly glad that I took the time to epoxy the floor when I first bought the house six years ago.
