LOL! I HAVE invested a fair fortune in PBR over the course of this build.

I'd be lying if I said the weight of the wires and junk hadn't crossed my mind, but this mod can't account for more than a few ounces saved. I was mostly after the added functionality and cleanliness of the Motogadget stuff. I had a Badlands module but it never really did exactly what I wanted. M-unit has emergency brake flashing (accelerometer-based), programmable turn signal & brake flashing/cancelling, programmable bightness, security system, current monitoring (shorts, opens, faulty lamps, etc), keyless ignition with bluetooth, remote setup, digital switching/relays, etc.

I considered using GripAce for the switches but I didn't want to give up my right side switches.

Damn, I need a drink (or 10) just looking at all that! Lol
I looked at the Grip Ace also. Can’t remember exactly what steered me away. I think the more I looked into em the more I just wasn’t feeling it. Not sure how I’d like having all my functions on one strip. I kinda like having separate switches to be honest as long as their clean lookin. But I drilled two small holes in my bars on the left for r/l turns. You may not want to do that.

Yep, that's exactly how I felt. They're (gripace) slick as ****, but less than ideal for a real rider bike. At least IMO.

The m-switch minis kinda split the difference between the stock switchgear and the gripace. I still want some cleaner levers, but that's another project.

Counting with my thumb R/l or l/R every time I had to use it would get to me after awhile I think. But yea, it’s slick.

No CAN bus on a 99. Just a rat's nest.

The ignition is still stock (well, screamin' eagle) electronic but I will update it to something programmable eventually. Maybe a thunderheart. Most of the ignition-related wires are untouched. A few of them got cut out completely (kill switch, data link) and a few are getting modified/streamlined (power & ground)

I do have one phantom connector that isn't shown in the FSM wiring diagram...so naturally I cut it out and crossed my fingers.

The m-unit replaces the TSSM, starter relay, and fuse box. The main 30A breaker from the voltage regulator remains (dammit). I also had to hack in a trailer convertor to make it work with my tails (it works fine with a normal dual function (brake/run) light, but I want three function (brake/run/turn)
Have fun with it! I am wiring my '80 shovelhead with the same m-Unit blue, and the m-button. I have gone internal wiring for the bars and it's super clean coming out of the handlebars now. (in real life theres now shroud over the wires and a grommet where they exit the bars.....)

The wires here also include three (GND, hot L, hot R) for bar end indicators.

I currently have the OEM HD handlebar switch clusters fitted, but am thinking about going to m-switches instead and separate brake and clutch levers.

Got my wire today and realized my wire stripper doesn't go down to 28AWG, so instead of going with a pocket knife like a real electrician I ordered another wire stripper...like the tool ***** I am.

Cut a hole in the frame for the ignition switch. I should have carbon fiber for the cover tomorrow. Pics to follow then.

Started working on plans for new turn signals to replace the no-longer-viable (because of internal throttle) m-blaze disc bar end signals. Ordered some 26/2 wire and amber LEDs for testing. We'll see. I'm not sure how bright I need to go. Still thinking about housing/mounting. I couldn't justify the cost for the Thunderbike alternative. These were only $0.18 ea, so no great loss if I need to step it up. They're about 5000 millicandelas but I don't know how that translates into white light lux. I suppose I could look it up. LOL.

Also forgot one wire, for the starter, so I ordered that.

Ordered some carbon fiber sheets from Hobby King but they didn't specify the weave type/direction so I didn't get exactly what I needed. The thin sheet (.3 mm) is parallel strands so it's very weak in one direction and very strong in the other. Rather than order something else from another supplier I just laminated two pieces with perpendicular strand directions. Setting up now.

Once it's hard, I'll trim it to cover the factory switch bracket and bond the m-lock to the inboard side.

The other sheet (1.5 mm) is to close up the openings between the rear down tube. I had a stainless sheet there last year, but Mike (aka Nemosengineer) used carbon and I liked that better. Stiffer and lighter.

Lamination clamped up. I forgot to take pics during lamination.

Ignition bracket modified and ready for bonding

M-lock fits like so...will be completely hidden behind painted carbon.
