Took my '15 Street Bob out from the garage and noticed that the fork tubes had developed some strange spots during winter storage. I've kept my bike in room temperature and I was really surprised and disappointed to see what had happened. Never had this problem with my old Japanese bikes...
Any idea how to fix this? A warranty-issue since the bike is less than a year old?
I wipe mine down periodically with Dupont Teflon Silicone lubricant. But I would think if you live near salt water you should do it regularly. Salt air is very corrosive on practically everything except gold.
If a polish does not get it done for you, I've taken emery cloth and/or 600+ grit wet/dry sandpaper, with a little bit of light oil and burnished the imperfection out. Take care you do not run the cloth/sandpaper up/down the tube... but in a rotary motion 'around' the diameter of the tube.
I'd try a lil cleaner first, IDK if I'd go sanding down that finish with anything before I stopped by the dealer. Also cant tell if that's chrome or the standard coated fork, if its coated once you cut into that surface your going have to keep going, you'll end up having to strip the whole thing.
Like I said, I've done it on my mine... and 'sanding' is not really what you're doing with 600+ grit wet/dry with oil... it's not chrome. Used to do the same thing on hydraulic ram shafts. You can't be stupid about it... but it works fine.
but yes, try the cleaner first. If you're uncomfortable using the emery cloth... then don't.
