Default Street Bob - Used Recommendations

Hey All,

I've been in the market for a used Street Bob and wondering something. From 2011-to the present... is there really any reason to buy newer like a 14-16 with the 103 engine? Other than cosmetics of course. This will be my first Harley but not my first bike. I saw a 2011 for a good price and wondering if I'd be happier spending a bit more on a 14/15 or not. If they all generally ride the same and have enough fun torque/hp I don't mind going a little older. What would you guys do? In other words, is there a huge benefit buying something 1-2 years old as opposed to 5-6?

In my opinion, your not gaining much by going newer. Unless you're looking for an ABS model, I would look for something older with mods you like. You will save a ton in the long run buying someone's cream puff that sits in the garage and comes equipped with stage 1 upgrades.

Are they all the same size roughly? Of the overall bike, not engine

they are the same size bike, just different motors. FWIW I have the 103 and my coworker has the 96 and I don't have THAT much more than he did when we were both stock. If they both cost the same amount of money then obviously the 103 is the choice to make. But considering the price difference between and 11 and a 14-15, you'd be better off getting the 11 with the 96 and using the extra money you save to do intake/exhaust/programmer and cams. A camed 96 will eat a stock 103. Now if you are going to be financing the entire thing and the lower price just equals lower payments and not more cash left in your hand, then get the 103.

exactly the kind of responses i was looking for. Thanks guys. If I can snag an '11 for 7-8k that would be perfect. Anything more I'd have to finance.

I think the '09 and a couple other years had built-in risers; vibe city for the handlebars. As well; prob '11 or later went to can-bus electrical system. I would go for a can-bus model; it's the way forward for electrical stuff.
Wouldn't have any '06 Dyna; too much of a bastard year for me, especially with so many used to choose from. The best choice will be enjoyed long after the price is forgotten.

So what are the "96" years... '11-'13? I'm asking because if the '11 is the same bike as a 09 or 10, maybe its best to save money and go to those years.
