Default Touring tank on a Dyna ?

Hello all,

I have a 1995 80cu.in Dyna Superglide (carburetted) and it comes with the OEM 4 (4.5?) gal. tank. The one with dual instruments on the bars and fuel gauge on the tank next to the filler cap.
4 gals. may seem OK for the Sunday ride but I like long range Touring (500+ mile days if I have to) and so far th bike averages 130 miles on a tankful before I have to stop and get gas.

I have seen the FL's beautiful 6 gal. tank and was wondering if there were any compatibility issues to swap tanks - at least those few times/year!

Any clues ? Single shell tank OK or would someone suggest the split tank is preferrable?

Thank you in andvance.

PS As I'm based in Europe TourTanks are out of the question, and strapping a Jerry can... well...

130 miles between fill ups? That seems awful low. I average around 185 and I have a 5.0 gallon tank on my super glide.

I get crappy mileage as well. I'm hard on the throttle and average around 35mpg. I don't think I've ever had any extended highway cruise mileage so I don't know what I'd get on a long, steady cruise. Sounds like a ride upstate is in order!

That what I get in the winter time riding to and from work.

on longer 60mph cruises I average 40-41, and about 38 in the warmer weather headed to work.

My 1995 SuperGlide has a 5 US gallon tank. It was stock as I bought it new and never changed it. What have you done to your EVO that results in such poor fuel consumption? I could go 155 miles including reserve. I was cammed, stage 1, pushrods/rockers/lifters. I made 67HP on the DynoJet 250, using Shell 92octane.
The cam specs are~

Crane 316-2B "Fireball"

Lazy until 3,000rpm. Then it "wakes up" at 3300rpm. By 3600rpm, it's "Happy Gilmore..."

Had this set-up for >100,000 miles.

Hi. I bought the bike up North and rode her home, 440 Km = 260 miles...

Had to refuel ~ halfway through at the 200 Km mark (125 miles) 12 litres !
That's 10 miles/litre or 38-40 mpg... not what I expected cruising at 60mph...

OK, true, I was without a windshield of any kind so maybe I was at worst possible conditions.
Also, cruising at 60 mph (with a few stints at 70 and just as many at 50 in top gear) made the engine labor at too low rpm (2500 at 60mph)

Still, if I want to do any serious traveling I neede more range between fillups.

So... thoughts?

Thanks all.

Poor fuel economy was to blame on a faulty carb-manifold-head gaskets allowing extra air to be sucked in, the "mechanic"
(=Official trained monkey who thinks he's smart) replaced a #165 main jet with a #195 and let the air screw out by 4 17" turns...

O M G !!!

So I went to an indie trained monkey who fixed the problem - #185 main jet and air screw only out 2 1/4 turns.

Now she's a different kind of animal...

Still, I wish there was a way to get more fuel into that tank...

I don't see why the tank that Archer posted would not work....?
That's 6 gallons of fuel in that.

Otherwise I don't see why a factory tank wouldn't work, perhaps with minimal modding.
