I have a 06 St BOB and i want to drop some new plugs in it before i leave on my trip?! Any ideas what plugs i should run?! what is the part numbers... what about Brouch plugs? thanks!
I run the HD platinums. My bike started missing at 6500 miles on the stock plugs. Replaced with same and got a miss about 6500 miles later. I replaced them with platinums. I rode over over 30k miles on those plugs. They were still running good when I swapped them out. I swapped them out only to monitor how my bike was running with some engine mods. That was 13k miles ago. It still running great on the platinums I put in then......Irregardless of what plug you choose, be certain to carry a spare set and a wrench with you.A fouled plug will leave you nearlydead in the water on a V-Twin.....A few years ago, a buddy and I were headed home on a trip at midnight in a pouring rain in the middle of nowhere when he had a plug go bad. His bike would barely pull itself. He had no spare. He had to leave the bike and bum a ride home.
I'd recommend the plain jane plugs also, but that's just my experience. Even the HD platinum plugs are not that more expensive and are designed for the bikes. You can try Champion, Nippondenso, Bosch or a dozen others, but if you're riding a mainly stock motor, there's nothing wrong with the regular plugs in my book.
And like Mud said, a spare set and a 5/8" wrench are really cheap insurance. Like flat tires, how many times have you had a flat or broken down in the middle of a weekday in front of a place that can fix it and get you on your way? None I'll bet. Be prepared to fix it yourself on the road.
The oem plugs are only a coupla bucks apiece. I just throw a new set in every five thousand miles just for insurance, but the ones I take out always look perfect.
