You're like me - get right back on. I crashed on a bike back in 2001 and messed myself up - not as bad as your injuries. My main injury was ligaments in left knee and a compound break of left forearm. I was looking for a new bike before the cast was off my arm. None of the dealers would let me test ride, of course, lol.

Those are some long scars and why they leave that hole in your stomach?!
It was stapled all the way down but there was a little infection happening about a week in, so the surgeon opened it back up to clean it out and left it open. I'm sure there's some standard practice involved. Open wounds with wet dressings seem to be fairly common. None of the nurses at the three different places I've been spending time have blinked an eye at it.
I did have a couple other tubes, pumps, and drains plugged in various places and had so.e more inserted temporarily for some tests but all I've got left now is the staples and pain.
Damn dude I have never been AND hopefully never get to go through such a thing!
I keep seeing and hearing more and more about spills, yet I don't gear up. I better start especially since I've got a 4 month old boy and almost 3 year old boy.
Heal up and keep us posted on your next badass ride!
You're young. Pretty typical. My boys are more safety conscious than most of their peers (largely because I preach on it and they've visited me in the hospital after various accidents) yet my youngest still won't entertain a full face helmet.
(Having your kids watch a doctor cut steel splinters out of your eye with a surgical Dremel is a good lesson in wearing safety glasses...for kids AND dad...)
We all take risks every day. It's not for me to say what risk level is acceptable for somebody else. Live your life the best you can and never look back.
I'very played it over 100x in my head and I'm really not sure what caused the accident. The nearest passers-by said my front tire blew out, but that doesn't seem right.
Right? Being a highly DIY type person I've always had emergency room grade scars, but this was my first time ever to have surgery or to be admitted to hospital. At least a dozen nurses have advised me to start rubbing vitamin E into the scars to minimize appearance. I don't really care, myself.
