Exactly!!! You don't have to be a mechanic to do this, you're just replacing parts. It'd be different if there were diagnostics to perform, but yes I really hope others do this install.
Just expressing my gratitude for your awesome post Nick. Documenting the effort as you did gives solid idea of the amount of work involved. I have my eye on doing a big bore kit. Now I can plan accordingly or maybe I will head over Zippers in MD and have them do one of theirs.
Shame to have it this dirty but hey, I wanted to ride today.
anyway I rode for 2 hours after work yesterday, came home with a 95.8 temperature and 100 miles. Still runnin strong. Now that I've put some miles on it I'm takin the rpms up a little further (around 3k) and auto tune is working out. Minimal decel popping in the learned rpm range, and you can just feel how bad this bike wants to go. As far as the temperature goes, don't give me ****, I've always ridden in the cold, and never had that happen before. Guess I gotta be careful.
Im not sure how old this thread is, but this is excellent, and am getting ready to do this. On the spacers for the cam gears, did you need any spacers or did you have to order a cam spacer kit/pack? Also, my 117 kit is on the way. Did you have to get extra o rings for all the items shown?
have a good one

Did it leak at all once you had been riding it for a while? I thought that screamin eagle kits required a metal crush style head gasket? Nice write up!

You must be thinking of the early years of 110 production vehicles which initially were built with multi layer steel head gaskets.
MLS gasket were a failure on the 110's . The product improvement campaign that had dealers replacing gaskets and replacing hundreds of cylinder heads was to get all of those gaskets out of those engines and replace them with a normal production gasket , which are still being used.

Good I hope this thread helps others. I bought a cam spacer kit, but didn't end up needing it. It's better to have it though just to be safe. The kit came with all of the O rings, but one behind the cam chest was missing. I bought one from Murrays, but if you find yourself in that situation, make sure you google the different colors because for oil you have to use brown or black. And obviously you want to make sure it's the exact same size and diameter.
No, no oil leaks yet. I have almost 20k on it and 17k on the 117.

I'm thinking it was more a design or production issue with those particular MLS gaskets than the MLS design itself. I can't speak for H-D, but S&S currently uses MLS gaskets in their 110" twin cam kits and apparently have no problems with them.
