Depends on my mood and the initial impression I get from the commentor. Some people are obviously not riders and I tend to blow them off. The guys that seem more genuine I tend to engage and discuss. Same thing with cars.

MIght put a small spot of paint remover where it isn't too noticeable; could be chrome under that flat black. Then you could spend hours tediously removing paint one tiny bit at a time...
