Default forward controls street bob

putting forward controls on my 06 street bob and I've read several posts that state the inner and outer primary covers will create a "tunnel" where the shifter shaft was, and that a plug is not required to prevent leaking. I have read others that state new models don't create the tunnel, and plug is required to prevent leaking. No one stated which year models do or don't need a plug. anybody have any helpful insight? many thanks in advance!!

Not sure but I'd spend the $125 for an ebay outer just to be rid of the useless hole.

I don't even like the inspection cover on mine.

Here's Kuryakyn aftermarket forewords on my 09 FDX;

They include a small cap that covers the existing shaft,, it doesn't leak. The shaft is held stationary with a small add-on clamp that fit's behind the inner primary.(un-seen)
Nobody has come up to me in the last two years and made a comment about the cap,, most folks know what it is.
There are instructions available on the forum where some guy's have removed the outer primary cover and simply cut the shaft,, then plugged the hole and/or bought a different primary cover.
My set-up doesn't bother me at all, If I ever have to change my drivebelt, (knock on wood), I'll then remove the shaft and change the inner and outer primary probably to chrome for this bike,, but until then I just ride it trouble free.

I'd get the plug. It doesn't actually have a deal on it, but looks better than a hole.
