I was looking for more passing power on 2 lane roads. after looking at specs and dyno sheets, I went with S&S 583 cams. I'm completely satisfied.

I also went with the S&S 583 cams along with the smaller spocket up front and I'm very happy and only 88 cu.in.

Would you consider shifting down a gear or two, to get the engine into the higher horsepower range? Maybe even cruising in 5th gear? It's free (doesn't require any mechanical modifications), and will increase rear wheel torque, which is really all that matters when it comes to acceleration and pulling power, all other things being equal. And it will equal or better changing the the sprocket ratios, unless you are lacking for "torque" in first gear.

Not that engine mods can't be fun.

My 2007 Dyna is still 96 inches. I'm running SE-255 cams, OEM head pipes with V&H slip ons, Thunder Heart Stand Alone Ignition, CV 40carb and manifold from a 1992 Evo big twin. A friend of mine in IL is running a similar set up but with a Mikuni and his dyno'd out somewhere around 80hp and 95 torque. The EPA mandated EFI really sucks. I can run 2 up all day with PLENTY of power waiting for me to twist the wick without down shifting. Got over 91,000 miles on it and gets 45 mpg.

Default Thanks

thanks for all the suggestion. Definitely why I joined this group. As far as tuning or mapping I had the bike mapped on a dyno and so I am hoping that it is as close to correct as possible. I like the idea of running a smaller sprocket up front so I think I'll give that a shot first and look at some of the cams you suggested. Again thank you all.

I know this is an old thread but id figured id ask anyway. I have the same set up as you except im running a s&s super e. I was just wonder what setting you have your thunder heart ignition on? Or did you map your own. Ive been running this set up sence 08 but could never hook up to the computer. Think im running setting C.

Maybe it's just me but, I don't expect much torque at 2000 RPM. It feels like you are just pounding the sh*t out of the low end. I always try to cruise at around 2500 RPM at least. If I'm riding the twisties, maintaining at least 3000 RPM stays real smooth and the torque is responsive. The motor is much smoother and the torque is much higher. NO COST. Just a change in riding habit. I don't expect much torque cruising at 2500 RPM, I'll always down shift to pass. So, I wonder how low RPMs everyone else is cruising at.

I'm just checking my product knowledge(or lack of),but I though the Dynas had a 103,after 2012,or was that an option.
I seem to remember buying my '11 FXDF 96",then 2 months later the 103 came out on Dynas?,or am I wrong again.
