97 Blacked Out FXDS Build Thread
Working on this Dyna for a customer of mine. Plan is to do a complete budget rebuild below 4k which is parts AND labor. Nothing too fancy or custom just bringing her back from the dead. Lucky for me he wants it ALL black. Lets see how goes. Pics are not in order and im not writing this as a how-to just passing time. Also because lurking a forum is kinda boring.Any comments or opinions are welcomed.
Bike has seen better days. Got it home, first thing is new battery, carb clean, fuel tank/filter clean and start her up.
Every single inch of her is corroded or rusted. And will need to be touched.
This is what happens to cheap chrome.
Getting my feet wet. Frame is rusted and pitted along with everything else. I see wire brushes, media blasting and a whole bunch of time in and cleaning in the near future for me. This is gonna be a loooooong ride. More to come.
Wondering how bad the rest of the frame is. For $4k a used TC may be a better deal. Unless the owner must have an EVO and/or that particular bike (sentimental reasons, etc.)
Yeah the trees were really bad when i pulled them off. After media blasting it i found that the rust just attacked the top layer and spread outward as supposed to eating away deeper and deeper. Dont have any after blast pictures but definately salvagable.
The gist of what the frame looked liked. After wire wheeling the crap out of it i found no holes and lots of shallow pitted areas but the integrity of frame is still intact. The flaking powdercoat was giving it more of an illusion.
Evos are hard to come by where im from and most of them look like this lol. Keep in mind that this is not gonna be a show bike.

Jk. I had to.
No history that i know of.. some dude took a rattle can and went to town on mostly everything without any prep or quality paint. He rode it for a bit, dog chewed up his brake line and after that just let it sit.
Funny I say that cause I will also be using spray paint on everything but the tins.
