Has anyone out there swapped a speedometer on a Dyna from top mount to a fuel tank console? What all would need to be done to the cycle? This is on a 2007 Super Glide.
I've never done it, but I'd check YouTube first and would guess an HD unit would come with decent instructions. All info is retained in the ECU, then it's a matter of unscrewing the dash and existing connections, then re-installing. Should be pretty straight forward plug-n-play, I'm thinking of switching mine at some point as well so I'm interested to hear someone's first hand hack at it~
The real first question you should ask yourself is " what dash, that will accommodate a speedo, will fit my tank."
Not all the dyna tanks have the same profile so you have to find out which one will fit. A SB might or a Super Glide custom maybe the one. I don't know the answer but that should be your first concern.
What size is your current speedo...4"-5" ? My 06 is a 4" but I think later they went to a 5".
If you have to buy a new speedometer, you will need to tell the parts person, where you buy it, what your current mileage is. The ECM will not plug that info in from the memory. I say this because when you go to sell or trade in the bike you have to sign a statement about the mileage.
