2010 dyna super custom. When i turn the ignition on the system relay starts chattering and won't let me turn the bike over. Any ideas on what would fix the problem, or a starting point for me to begin to try to fix the problem? I am not mechanically challenged so I can do the work no matter how indepth I need to go. I am starting a new job on monday so i am kinda pressed to fix this, any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Um.. have you tried replacing the relay? When I worked at a high end boat manufacturer wiring the helm stations, at times we would have a relay go bad during the final test, just happens. The coil inside just stops working. But for giggles and grins check your connections to the relay first.
By the way welcome from west side of Mi. next to the big lake.

Have you checked the voltage on the battery, 12.8V min.? Check all the connections hot and ground to the starter. Have you done anything to the bike prior to this event?
To me sounds like there isn't enough voltage or a weak ground to hold it closed to allow a path for elec.

There are two chassis grounds immediately to the left of the battery/battery tray down in the recess under the seat.
Check that they are in good condition.
One of the larger wires coming off of the two chassis grounds also goes to the main engine ground located beneath the battery tray and behind the starter motor. Check that is in good condition also.
As already suggested, ensure the battery is good.
Good luck finding the problem and with the new job.
I agree with checking your battery has a good charge. Same thing happened to me today while chasing a problem with my turn signals. Had them on for too long and drained the battery. Even at 12.73 volts you could hear the relay chatter, and hitting the started tried and then a heavy clang. Had it on the tender for a few hours and just tried it, fired right up with no noise except fuel pump.
