Default Engine Guard (done)...next foot pegs (feedback?)

2017 Harley Davidson Street Bob.

I've been trying different kinds of freeway pegs, but none stick out far enough to be usable (knee hits air filter, etc.). Friends told me I need to break down and buy an engine guard, and that'll give all the flexibility needed to mount pegs with any of a variety of adapters.

So I went ahead and did it. Looked at the different engine guards, decided to go with plain chrome (not the mustache model). Rode a few hundred miles and I like it a lot. Goad I didn't go with black, or with the mustache model.

After putting my feet up against the bar on today's ride back on the highway, I think I know where to mount the foot pegs.

Engine Guard Kit - Chrome (49010-06)

Any advice on any specific pegs or adapters?

I finally settled on Kuryakyn Longhorn Offset Peg Mounts in chrome (#7986) with Joker Machine Serrated Heel Footpegs in anodized black (#08-62-1B).

I did need a .025" shim to mate up the footpeg to mount as the standard footpeg bowed washer was too thick for this setup.

Very happy with the end result!

We have a larger variety of Trap Style and more Traditional Style Pegs that work well as Highway Pegs...see them at the previous two links.

We also have a good selection of Highway Peg Mounting Options.

Here's a photo of just one style, using this type of Mounting Hardware.

Yet another style, using this Mounting Hardware.

My previous setup was similar to that shown here on the DK Custom website:
http://www.dkcustomproducts.com/chro...ky-ca-hp-c.htm

I liked the ISO pegs and ISO stirrups like those in the pics, but found they looked awkward sticking out so far (looked like outriggers). So I moved the ISO pegs to my main footpeg location to replace the stock footpegs and switched to the Joker Machine footpegs on the engine guard. The stirrups are in my spare parts bin. I think this set up looks much better.

Thanks for all the feedback!

For foot pegs with heel support, looks like I'll go with the Kuryakyn ISO-Peg Stirrups https://www.kuryakyn.com/products/429/iso-peg-stirrups since they match the Kuryakyn foot pegs I already have.

For mount, Harley Davidson's 360 Degree Adjustable Highway Peg Mounting Kit https://www.harley-davidson.com/stor...-peg-mount-kit...

...sure looks a lot like Kuryakyn's Longhorn Offset Peg Mounts https://www.kuryakyn.com/products/49...set-peg-mounts. Maybe they're farming out the work.

I'll get these ordered and once they're installed I'll post before/after pics, in case it is helpful to anyone else.

I love crash bars on my cruisers but I don't think my legs are long enough to reach, haha.

I have had better luck with the MoCo chrome over any other, even though it’s all Chinese, just my experience?

I'm really not crazy about the "squarish" look of many crash bars, and prefer those that angle up from the bottom, since they allow more "leaning" on corners before they touch, yet they will hit bottom before the pegs do. Mind you, this is only my personal opinion.

I also like the stirrups on the pegs for highway bars, making them more like a floorboard, but I think they look better and are more "sporty". I've seen several on eBay for about $40/pair, with some as low as under $30/pair. They also have them all black, if you want to keep that blacked out look. I realize they're made in China or Indonesia, but pretty much everything is nowadays, so I don't see any reason to give the Moco so much MORE $ for the same thing.

I'm 5'5" and the highway peg mounts are flexible enough for my 29" inseam legs to reach. Plenty of mounting options out there, loving the flexibility of the 360s.

We thought the same thing, but when we tipped the bike over (three of us) we found the foot pegs touched the ground way before the engine guard. The alternate shape engine guards would probably give a lot more clearance, that isn't needed.
