I chased a strange clunk in the front end on my 2008 Nightrain last year. I tried everything that I could think/read of. I put a wrap of electrical tape around the edge of the glass headlight housing. Between the glass and the headlight bucket. Pot hole clunk gone.

The clunk has nothing to do with triple tree washers, neck bearings etc etc....it’s in the forks, I guarantee it.
change your fluid, add some decent springs and oil....get your preload and SAG set properly and your clunk will be gone and your bike will ride much better

And that's what I'll be doing next. Ordering Progressives and oil.

If you're talking about "Suspension" Fork Springs (as opposed to "Top Out" springs), why do you think changing them would help with "Topping Out" ?

Unless you're changing to "Lighter" Springs

Let me explain what's happening. When exiting my driveway, or hitting a small pot hole, the front end "clunks".as if, on the rebound, it's hitting like a slide hammer being fully extended. Just "WHAM". So, yea. It's a topping out problem, not bottoming out or dampening (the ride is actually perfect). I guess that's the best I can explain it.

Ok...So I shortened the question?

I'm not an engineer. What other recommendation might you have? There are no loose nuts anywhere. The steering head bearing have no play. I just went outside and push the bike forward, then slammed on the front brake. The sound is thereon the rebound, emanating from the forks.

How long have you had the bike? Did the previous owner put stiffer springs in, or raise the front end? Change in oil from stock? Any other mods to the forks? Sounds like a topping out problem. Heavier oil could help maybe. Is there a broken rebound valve? May have to pull forks apart and investigate.
