Default Clunking front end

When I hit a pothole, or even less, the front end has a discernable "clunk", as if the forks are topping out.

Tighten the forward and rear fuel tank bolts.

Take a good look at the front engine mount.
It's always good to provide things like year, model, miles, etc.

It's neither the tank bolts nor engine mounts. I even took the front caliper and wheel off, then reassembled them. Nothing was loose or had play.

How do you know it`s not the tank bolts or engine mount?

I checked them about an hour ago. I spent all day yesterday checking everything also. When I push down on the front end, I cannot simulate the clunking. I just wonder if the springs, at just under 12,000 miles, are shot?
It's an 02 FXSTDI (Softail Deuce).

Take a bat and hit your front tire...the noise should be reproduced.

Well yea, but don't hit the rim, and don't try to kill it.
Moderation, but it will reveal the noise IF it is in the front.
The trouble is, noises travel....
