Perhaps I have owned a fleet of trucks and better understand what is going on.
Relevancy is the occurrence where the slot is acceptable to the apparatus is fitting in it.

You definitely can shift up in a HD as the RpM is dropping off
Shifting dwn,- there is no neutral to give the main shaft a whirl to match RPM and road speed. Savvy?
So you hope you get right between the click (detents)
