You may have something there. Check the oil one day and it's half full. No leaks. Then added 2 qts and the next day it was waaay over the top and coming out the air cleaner.

 

Just R&R the damn thing and be done with it.

 

Knocking sound at all speeds/revs? Lifters will clatter/knock when they won't pump up. Then the valve on the lifter isn't working properly, opening all the way.

 

Why would you add 2 qts when it was half full? The twin cam only takes about 2.5 max at an oil change.

Better describe half-full... how did you come by that measurement?

 

I didn't. My Indy said it was 2 qts low.

 

And there's the problem!

 

I think you better drain your engine oil, and put just under 2.5qts back in it. It would be interesting to know just how much oil you drain out.
