Hi all, here's a weird one for you. My 2008 96 CI has gotten noticeable louder. All additional noise is coming out of the pipes (valves sound fine etc). I've checked the bolts on the cylinder flanges and made sure both mufflers are still in place ( I have V&H Straight Shots with the, "quiet baffles"). I'm also getting more gurgle and occasional popping which is what led me to think I had an exhaust leak - the flange bolts were the first thing I checked. Add to this, I think it's running a bit rough, I seem to have normal power, but I'm picking up vibration with my feet that I haven't noticed before (not the typical Dyna shake).
Has anyone ever run into this? Do exhaust pipes crack? Thanks!!
You may need to re-pack the baffles. Over time the fiberglass blows out and the pipes get louder. I have V&H short shots with the quiet baffles and they did the same thing. They progressively got louder until there was no fiberglass left inside.
I wrapped the baffles with some fiberglass fabric and it tamed them back down a bit. Not as quiet as when the baffles were new but it deepened the tone. I will probably add a little more fiberglass to quiet them a little more at some point.
THats weird cause Ive noticed my s&s fat cat (performance/loud baffle) has gotten quieter. No longer blows my ear drums out.
Anyway about your problem, I would agree with affdynarider and suspect the baffles if youre 100% POSITIVE theres no exhaust leak because an exhaust leak would be my first thought.

This is something I had considered. I may go with those simple inserts that so many others like (can't recall the name right now).

I've got the same exhaust with the QBs and they sound the same so far. I would pull the QBs and make sure the fiber glass isn't completely gone, it's not uncommon for that to happen.
