Default Hard Starting Problem
I have a 1999 FXR2. It's having a problem where it takes several seconds of cranking before it starts. It spins fast, it just doesn't start right away. Once it starts it seems to run fine. I bought a used S&S 80" engine. It has a Mikuni HSR 42 carb and Daytona Twin Tec single fire ignition. The red light for the ignition comes on as the timing mark is in the window. The module settings are Mode Select-3, Advance Slope-7. I'm not sure what cam it has, but I would assume it's the cam that came from the S&S factory.

Any suggestions?

It might sound silly but is it possible there is residual bad gas in the lines?

Are you trying to start with the throttle twisted open a little? If yes, leave the throttle closed. Sounds like the engine is slightly modded, give the throttle a couple of quick twists and leave closed then try to start.
