My bike had 16" apes positioned parallel to the forks when I bought it. It was awkward to say the least. My hands felt like they were as far back as my head, and I had to lean the bike to turn as opposed to being able to push the bars like I'm used to. As soon as I got it home, I turned the bars forward to a nearly vertical position. I now had better control of the bike, but couldn't reach very well.
Second set of bars were Biltwell window bars, which are either 9" or 10" if I'm not mistaken, on the 2" OEM risers. Basically an adjustable T-bar. Absolutely hated them. They had me stretched out hunching forward, causing back/shoulder pain.
My third and current set are 14" T-bars. I probably could have gone with the 12's, but I'm happy enough with the 14's to not fiddle with it anymore. They're damn near perfect. I feel really confident throwing the bike around, [insert cliche here], etc. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Harley-Davi...hmWJ:rk:5:pf:0
I'm thinking about just the opposite. Going from the stock mini apes on my 2008 Street Bob to standard Low Rider handlebars w/ no riser. Just wondering if that will be comfortable for crusing, when not riding aggressively. BTW, my bike has mid mount controls.
