Going in for my stage 1.......V/H straightshot hs slipons,Ness big sucker. Question is my HD stealership said they had a race tuner ordered for me, but not in yet. If I get the conversion and don't plan on any other upgrades, do I really need a tuner? thanks guys
YES! Bike comes from factory way to lean. When you put stage 1 and pipes, it pulls in even more air, making it even leaner. It will pop and backfire and eventualy run to hot and burn up the insides. Definately get it dyno-tuned to richen out the fuel mixture.
Apparently they are going to do the conversion without a tuner on my bike correct? Or should I call them and re-schedule when my tuner comes in? thanks guys
Congrats on the slip-ons, I would get it on the dyno and most likely they'll do some adjusting. Not only would I like to see the new pics but I'd like to hear how the dyno goes if you choose to go that route.
Falsealarm,
How much is the stealer charging you for doing the install? You might want to consider doing it yourself and pocketing the money. It's an easy enough upgrade. Wait till your tuner comes in then set aside a few hours to do it. Shouldn't take more than about three hours to do the whole thing yourself. And that's including taking the time to read through any directions and study any drawings prior to commencing the work. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on this site that are more than willing to help you through it.
The Stage 1 is an ECM burn-in to fatten up the A/F Ratio (according to our local stealership and $200 to boot). It is used with New A/C and Pipes. Not as effective as Some type of tuner (Daytona,TMax, SERT or ?) with or without dyno time. But, then if your only changing A/C and pipes. How far do you need to go? You might want to do somehome work, if you haven't already, and look into a piggyback (Fuelpak, Revtech or ?). Lot's of option's don't limit yourself to the MoCo. Remember, the aftermarket industry is there for us when the MoCo fails, as usually happens.
