i have a 2007 dyna wide glide, and i have 43,000 miles on it....
repairs since i had it-
$400- hard drive compensator
$400- new charging system
my mechanic installed the above.
now i have a oil leak from primary side, i believe its the transmission bearing, or inner primary bearing, both range from $600- $900 repair bill..
DAMN- are these bikes that unreliable.....if i get the transmission bearing install- allmost $2000 ;total repair bills in 43000 miles..
my mechanic said the pre-2006 dynas a lot more reliable
is there a way to make this bike reliable.....or should i sell it....

So, you have a 12yr bike with 43k miles on it and you are surprised than it needs some repairs?
Fix it up and get another 43k miles! Get positive about it!
Get a service manual and learn how to work on it! They're fairly simple to work on.

those repairs you paid for are not hard to do yourself. Many people (new riders) get scared of doing their own wrenching. That inner primary bearing could have been replaced when the stator was replaced. Easy 2 hour job. A manual comes in handy.

Btw you mind taking a pic of where its leaking from?
u got to take primary cover off to see where its leaking...harely dealer said it was primary gasket, and shifter seal that goes into tranny...my mechanid in phoenix (iron horse corrall).....reached under the primary cover and said it was leaking from up other side of cover...said its probably shifter seal, primary seal, or main tranny seal
So what's the plan? Are you going to get a service manual and take care of the small issues or drop it off to a shop to have it done? We can't diagnose anything over the internet accurately, some photos would help, but a service manual and digging in would be the best bet. Gaskets are cheap, get them all, dig in, find out which one it is, then take the others back.
IMO these are simple things to take care of. I've had a VMax that I beat on that only needed valve adjustments while I had it, then the person I sold it to has had to do LOTS to it since. I've also had a Hayabusa that I did a lot of stupid repairs to along with some Jap bobbers I built. My 07 WG has been flawless, however, some things are bound to happen, as it's a piece of machinery built by humans, with parts, manufactured by humans, just like all of my prior bikes.
On these jobs its best to get educated on the procedure. Ive done several full primary jobs like replacing inner primary bearings, compensators, welding up stator plates on the 2 piece units made in 2006 etc.
the shop manual is usually dead on. Some of the inner primary sealing bolts are not reusable. Using quality gaskets are important and torque sequence on both the inner primary and outer primary is critical. You skimp on any one area and leaks are possible. Do the job right and leaks are all but impossible.
I do this stuff myself because I know without a doubt Ill do the job right the first time. Your bike is fine, the work is suspect.
i got shop manual....i have no garage....never had the primary side off or the compenstator clutch assembly....i just had a new compensator installed, makes sort of small noise going down the road at certain rpm,s...mechanic told me about it, but said its whats he put in big mortor builds.i quess i could try some of it
