Hi all, recently my 2013 FXDB with around 22,000 miles has started stuttering and cutting out while I’m riding, it also occasionally happens when I’m coming to a stop and slowing down. When it’s running I have throttle on, all of a sudden the bike cuts out like you flipped the kill switch and immediately turned it back on (the speedo needle drops to zero and then comes back up to speed) the bike goes through the startup process again (ABS and oil pressure light flash) almost like it was bump starting itself and then all is back to normal for a few minutes before it happens again. When I’m slowing and coming to a stop it does the same kill switch flip and start up sequence before idling really high (about 1400) for a few seconds until I come to a complete stop. Anyone have any ideas on what the issue could be? I’ve heard everything from a bad battery to the connectors, speed and crank sensor going bad, to the stator and voltage regulator going out. Any advice is greatly appreciated as I really wanna get back to riding.

PS I also pick up a P1632 code almost every ride. That’s a speedo code, could that be the source of it all?

 

Whenever there's a weird intermittent electrical the first place to look are the battery connections, both at the terminals and the ground. Take them apart, clean them up with emery paper or a wire brush, and make sure they're tight and flush. You didn't say how old is the battery, but charge it up fully and get it load tested.
