Cardboard, yea I'm realizing the handling quirks pretty fast. I've already ground the right stirrip and exhaust shroud a few times. The Samson pipes look great but they are actually lower than the stockers so I guess I'll just grind the crap out of them. I still have the sport bike and to say the riding styles are different would be an understatement. The whole push/pull dive into a corner is totally bizarre to me but I'll get used to it. Plus, the whole 300 LB heavier bike with half the braking capacity is a little strange to get used to as well. I'll adapt.
Sargek, I had a mustang seat on my Valkyrie and it made a TON of difference over the stock. Truly night and day. The stocker here is WAY too soft for me so I'll address that soon enough. I have to regroup my finances a little and we'll get on it. Any source for the best prices on the mustang seats?
Bucky - I got my Mustang direct from Mustang, but you might look around to see if anyone else offers them cheaper. Check eBay too - I have found several things there for next to nothing. We have a classified section here and a wanted section also, so you might post what you are looking for. I got a set of stock pipes that way and it worked out great. Enjoy your ride!
Well, I loosened and torqued everything back down and it's the same. I think I was just "springing" the front forks so I thought I was turning the forks in the triple. Anyway, after looking at it again I see that the top fork cap probably has to be loosend as well for the fork legs to rotate, right? I'm used to the jap sport bikes which have pinch nuts on the top and bottom trees. I get too excited and start wrenching sometimes I guess. I know, wait til the manual arrives! I appreciate your answers and taking to time to "acclimate" a noob. If the top cap has to be loosened, how much torque does it take to retighten? I don't think I have a 1 3/8 socket or wrench (mostly metric for now) so I have to wait anyway. How do you protect from screwing up the "mirror finish" on the caps and triple tops? OK, I'm taking a step back from the bike and taking a deep breath! I'll just ride it in the interum! Thanks again guys.
