Default My Super Glide Restomod Project

Alright guys, I'm not picking up the bike until Sunday but I wanted to get this ball rolling. I found a 2005 Wide Glide that has been wrecked and partially disassembled, and it's just the type of project I've been looking for.

Now, realizing that it's not in running condition there's only so much of an "inspection" I can do when I get there, but I still wanted to reach out to you all and see if there's any advice to be offered as far as what to check. My big concerns are making sure the frame is straight and true, and the engine turns over freely.

Here are the two photos I've received so far:

The First thing is to Change Your Title ...

My Wide Super Glide Restomod Project

(I thought maybe you were just stating "Your Vison", but then I saw how you reference it again in your post ... so No plausible deniability)

I see the Tank is dented ... so hopefully that Kawasaki tank is available

Good Luck

.

Ah ha, learn something new every day.

So, as you mention the tank is hosed, so that will be replaced. The wiring harness is spilling out of the front of the bike, and I anticipate that will be the bigger challenge. From my discussions with the guy, it sounds like those are the main things to be rectified before it'll run. My hope is that I can get it running fast enough to do a little riding this summer, then tear everything back down this winter for the mods.

Who knows though, once I get it home I might just jump in with both feet.

From looking at the pictures, I would say the fixing the wiring harness that runs through the backbone will be one of the bigger challenges. It also appears that you are missing the gauges and console, which could be difficult to find for a reasonable price. Looks like a good project through!

Well, he said he has the gauges and console, and a seat as well, they're just not pictured.

I agree, it seems the wiring harness is going to be the bigger hurdle. I plan to pick up the factory service manual, and some cursory searching online revealed a wiring schematic as well as aftermarket harnesses, so I think it's doable. I also have a friend who's an excellent marine electrician, so I can probably rope him into it with beer if necessary.

Regarding the engine, is there any way to manually rotate the engine like you can with a truck?

If he has all the parts is shouldn’t be too bad then!

Lift the rear tire off the ground, put it in gear, and roll the tire by hand. Only way that doesn’t require taking anything apart.
