Here's a question that will have a lot of tall ape hanger guys saying I'm nuts. I haven't totally made up my mind yet but I'm thinking of going from 16" buffalo apes (1.5" diameter)to 12" apes.
I only have one problem with the 16s and that's the high speed wobble thatI get when I go over 75mph.I don't like it when they start wobbling. I've found that loosening up on my grip and not pulling back on them eliminates the wobble but that's hard to do when your trying to stay on the bike with the wind pounding your chest. Do you guys have the wobble problem?
Anyway, here's the main question: Will I have to buy shorter cables? I don't want to go with the original black ones that came on the bob.
I've got absolutely no wobble up to 110 mph or so with 18" apes. I try to hit 90 mph each time out on the bike for a short time frame - never had stability issues although the wind wacking you at 90 MPH, especially with any headwind, can be pretty brutal..[:-]
I don't have any wobble issues with my 16's. Don't get me wrong the cross winds tend to throw me around a bit on the highway, but that's not a wobble. Have you changed your riser bushings to the poly ones? I did feel like the front end had kind of a mind of it's own, even with the stockmini apes,at any speed before I changed the bushings. Stock bushings are to soft for any kind of apes in my opinion.
And unless you want alot of slack in your cables, you will have to changed them if you go with the 12's.
Yeah I have the poly bushings. I don't know what the deal is with the instability at high speed. Maybe I need to have the dealer check it out. If I can solve the problem I'll probably keep the 16s. If not, I'll go to 12s.
I also have a wobble at higher speeds. 16 in wild one chubby's. It's not always there. Seems like worse when it's windy. Feels like the wind is catching my mirrors. If I let off the gas it stops.
