That does look good. How do you like the sound? Is it ever TOO MUCH?

I've heard comments before about Fat Cats being that loud, but every video I've watched, I love the boom-y-ness of it. The deep tone to it. I think the D&D kinda states about a certain one for certain engine mods and up to a Stage 3, then another one for Stage 4+. I'm still undecided if I want to do a Stage 4 or just stick with a Stage 3 103ci and up the compression and put better heads on it. I want to see if I can hit 110-115whp with a 103ci. I've seen it done before. I think it'd be FUN. Haha. I already have the intake. The ONLY choke point then, would be the factory heads, but I've been looking at FM head upgrades as well. I've looked at all of it already. So many decisions. Maybe talk to Woods, figure out a cam grind, and get THEIR opinions on exhausts and heads. I'm sure they know a thing or two about what good combos work together and what don't. Thanks for info!!
Come on... You CAN’T possible think ANY sound you hear out of a PC speaker/YouTube video is going to come close to realistic sound levels. Here’s something to think about. When you record something using your phone (like 99.9999% of YouTube videos are) the phone sets the audio level automatically. It tries to make everything it hears the same volume level. So it’s a fool’s errand to think you can judge the volume of a pipe from a YouTube video.

Maybe you can get some idea of the tone, but even that will change with the volume relative to how close you are.

Go to any bike event and listen to pipes first hand, that’s the only way to realistically hear how “loud” a pipe is.

As an example, go find Matt Laidlaw’s exhaust comparison video. You’ll hear a dozen pipes, and even the stock pipes sound pretty much as loud as the D&D he has (maybe with less clipping) because the levels are all boosted/lowered to match what the camera thinks it should be.

All that said, I had a fat cat on a M8 Softail with a cam, and it was f’n loud. I never heard a twin cam, but I understand they are louder. I would love one on my worked LRS, but now that I’m in Florida, I don’t want to get shot at by the neighbors...

Yes seriously... They tried to blame it on me and the bike was always garage kept.. I'm an **** m***********..

And Mchad is right.. You need to go to an event to listen to these things to get an honest opinion.. the real key though too a good sounding pipe is compression..

For really fine sounds it's tough to beat an Evo or Shovelhead.

Here's a fat cat that came off a 2003 iron horse chopper wide tire bike and I have it mounted to 89-in stroker Evo...

Here's a sounds bite with the RB LSR pipe..

I have a Supertrapp that I run on my Evo as well. I like to change things out from time to time. Quality is very good probably not as good as D&D but it is very good.. One of the best things I like about the supertrap pipe is the collector.. It's more streamlined than most other pipes out there which works very well when you're into the higher rpm ranges. But the nice thing about it is that you can also tune it for low end.. It's one of the most versatile pipes out there for the cost.. I think I paid $675... I ended up taking all of my discs and open end cap off and I just run it wide open and it sounds excellent... In the picture below there's a Kirker on the bottom a Supertrapp in the middle and the D&D on the top. If you look at the collector between the D&D and the super trap you'll see how the super trap is more streamlined than the D&D. This is why the D&D has pretty good numbers for torque but yet still breaths very well up top. They offer two baffles with the D&D perforated which is very loud or louvered which is still loud but better for all around street performance.. The Kirker pipe is not tunable even though it's identical to the Supertrapp in design it just comes with a trimmed wide open end with a perforated baffle. They are very loud and very good over 3000 RPM. I hope to put my supertrap back on before the weekend is out and if you want I can send you a video clip of it. If you think that on the supertrap the pipes are too blue because it's too lean it's not.. I run my motors 13.8 to 14.1 AFR's because lean is mean..

From his first post it looks like a 13 Fat Bob, so should be.

A shop I know recommended against Fat Cats on Dyna’s. Said they saw a number of head pipes cracking from the vibration. Don’t really get that, as the bracket mounts to the transmission, which of course is bolted to the motor, making the entire setup effectively “one piece”. The Fat Cat is big, maybe the trans bracket flexes a little too much putting stress on the pipe? Don’t know the answer to that though.

The one I had on a Softail was very solid (well built) - I would still probably get one for my Dyna. Wish I could hear the volume of it with my mods. I like loud, but not ear bleedingly so. The M8 Fat Cat was loud indeed, but M8’s are so different exhaust sound wise, it’s comparing apples to oranges...

Honestly I like solid mount drivetrains because if you get any type of oddball vibration you feel it right away which is a good thing and yes it does save lives on exhaust
