so do all the new dynas sound like hondas? (quiet) OR has anyone found pipes with the o2 sensor bungs?
I'd hate to get an 06 and not have it sound like a harley...
Anyone got a loud cure for the 06?
They sound okay. They're real nice at idle and low rpms. Got a nice potato sound. Once you get it revving they sound kind of ratty though. They lack a growl at speed. I'm going to get the VH in the spring. I'm running the stock EFI settings without any problems. No popping or any signs of leaness. I also have the stock A/C.
I just picked up my '06 FXDWG the other day. I had the dealer put on the SEII's with the A/C and remap. I've only been on a short ride - crumby weather- but I think it sounds and runs great. The bike feels pretty "torquey". (I'm still getting used to the new easy pull clutch and 6-speed tranny.) Anyway, my old bike (evo) had some V&H pipes sans the baffles and it was a bit too loud - IMO the '06 sounds the way a Harley should - loud, but not teeth rattlin' loud. I'm happy with the setup!
A bit of an updated opinion here. I had posted that my SEII slip-ons sounded kinda ratty at higher RPM. Well today I stopped by the HD dealer and while I was there, they did the stage I download on my bike. Big difference in sound and performance. The bike pretty much roars any time I am on the throttle now. Before the download, it never popped or ran bad, it just felt kinda choked off when I would get into it. The pipes lacked bark too. Felt like it was starving for air or fuel. The download made a world of difference. The pipes sound excellent. It's like riding a different bike. I am looking forward to getting the SE A/C next. I agree with everything Chukmar said.
The stock pipes are rumbly and do sound like a harley at idle, but when you roll on, the motor becomes silky smooth and the rumble subsides. At highway speeds I don't hear the bike at all over the wind noise and have to turn my head to figure out what the engine is up to. In contrast I've heard the most obnoxiously loud exhaust sound thinking it was some ratted out harley only to discover it was a Yamaha Star with some kind of drag pipes. I'm definately not a fan of hearing a bike from 2 miles away and having your fillings knocked out when riding next to them.
