I am also on a few Dyna pages on Facebook. Seems like a ton of them rag on the FXDWG and post memes ragging it. Just curious if it was a widespread thing or just the douches on FB.
I think they're jealous.
I bought my first Harley in 1986, it was an 883 Sportster. The FXWG of that year I fell in love with but couldn't afford and I would love to get one today. IMHO this is the best looking bike Harley has ever made. The brochure posted above is from 1986
Wide Glide is my favorite, the kind with shocks showing, I don't like a softail that pretends to be a rigid.
The kind of riding i do I need a dresser.
my favorite bike ever was my 84 Shovelhead that I converted to a wide glide.
I see a lot of wide glide hate too on facebook. I think it's mostly younger dudes trying to distance themselves from what they perceive as boomer/old guy bikes. I have some younger friends and they will replace perfectly good (and cool looking imo) parts because "it's old guy ****".
For the record I like wide glides and I am half-way to being an old guy myself.
I love my 03 FXDWG. It has the custom red flame paint scheme on it. I like it so much I put a Baker OD6 gearset in it and rebuilt the camchest area with the Screamin Eagle upgrade parts for reliability.
Sure it don't handle as good as the bigger wheel Dynas but I don't care. It has similar styling to my 76 FLH (same rear fender, 21" front wheel and FXWG seat) which is what attracted me to it. I also like that I was able to extend the forward controls a few inches with the Kury Akyn kit. Now it is comfortable for long hauls but light enough to have fun with.
