Exhaust: looks/sound vs. performance
I had a FuelMoto E-Series 2:1 on my Low Rider S since I got it. About 5 months ago I bought a Red Thunder 2:1. Anyway, the Red Thunder was a noticeable improvement over the E-Series across most of the board, though not so much below 2500 rpms, where is was a little softer then the E-Series. The Red Thunder does look great, and sounds fantastic. It’s based on the Thunderheader which is one of the best sounding pipes you can get for a twin cam.
Now, I’ve been talking with Jamie at @fuelmoto when I was unable to get heat shields from Red Thunder because the company basically sucks. He suggested when he has some time he could look into fitting one of his excellent RTX muffler cores into my E-Series muffler, which should be pretty killer. So I had sent him the can a month or so ago. Last week he put together a muffler and sent it back to me. I dropped the RT and installed the RTX pipe yesterday. I used my wide-band Power Vision Autotune Pro kit to tune it a few times, and went riding.
Well this pipe is phenomenal. The low end is stronger then the Red Thunder and the high end is.... A f’n monster. Once I pass 3000 rpms it pulls so much harder then the RT it feels like much more then just a pipe change was done. I don’t get it. But I’ll take it.
Now the problem. Like I said, the Red Thunder is a great looking and amazing sounding pipe. The RTX, not as much. It’s not bad looking by any means, a little big is all, and the sound is very nice, but it’s just a bit quieter and just not as “mean” sounding as the Red Thunder.
So the Mr. Spock in me says, logically the better performing pipe is the way to go. But the Captain Kirk in me says go with the green Orion slave girl.
Here’s the Red Thunder without the heat shields. Hot and sexy...
And here is the RTX - the slightly chunky girl with the great personality and amazing “skills” in the sack...
Not going to bother with sound clips, because you can’t experience what a pipe really sounds like on your smartphone or iPad speakers...
So... Thoughts?
Although I'm a fan of the "V" header-pipe like my Bobcat which the RTX uses the muffler leaves a little to be desired.
Number chasing is nice but with the power your motor is making can't believe the loss is worth not having the finished product that appeals to you.
So, the correct answer is....get a Bobcat

Ya like that bobcat, huh? I had a fatcat on another bike. Really liked it...
I had a D&D Fatcat on a Softail. I really liked it, but I heard they had problems with the twin cam version bracket cracking and damaging cylinder studs - not sure where that stands at this point. TBH I do like Suede’s Bobcat a lot. But I’m not keen on spending another grand when I have these two excellent pipes already.
You're thinking it must be over a 10tq difference eh, even maybe a few more; well power is what you paid for so again, that's hard to turn down!
