One of the bolt holes for the bearing case stripped a couple of years ago and I've been putting off doing anything about it. I don't really want to take the bearing case off so I'm wondering if I can Helicoil through the hole in the case? Anybody ever do that before?
That would be a piece of cake to helicoil. You could also drill and tap one size up but then you’ll have the odd one larger socket cap exposed. I’l helicoil it for sure. E-Z. Drill straight in - the existing hole keeps it straight, tap, and screw in the coil.
+1 with Mchad, the creamy stuff looks like water contaminated the trans oil through some water vapor condensation within the case. If you are in the southern climates ride till the transmission is good and hot and change the oil, check the vent tube for any blockage preventing the vapor to escape.
I would figure out a way to remove the trap door and do it right.. In this situation I don't think there are any short cuts... And yes as mentioned check your tranny vent...
