I just purchased this bike, Im the 3rd owner. The original security code is not known by me or 2nd owner of bike. Is there a way I can pull this info from the bike itself?
I am having a problem with starting the bike, but it happens randomly. I get on the bike with the key fob in my pocket and the lights will start flashing back and forth. I cannot start the bike when this is happening. I put a new battery in the key fob and no change. I read to start the bike before getting on it and it wont set the alarm off. Is this really the case? Does the key fob not over ride the alarm?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Was the bike running when you bought it, and what have you done to it since then?
Define what you mean by it won't start. Does it crank over and not fire or does it not crank over at all? Is the kill switch in the run position?
I would start by getting the battery load tested. Check both ends of both battery cables, make sure they are clean and tight.
I had that issue after changing out my fob battery. It turned out that it was a bad new key fob battery. When you turn on the ignition watch the red light on the dash, if it starts flashing really fast then it is trying to sink to the fob and having an issue. Even if you have recently changed the fob battery try another new one of a different brand.
Make sure the new fob battery is put in correctly. The fob does not override the alarm. I didn't think that model came with an alarm, just a security system.
Once you get it running, you can enter your own pin into the system, which you can use even without a fob. Since you probably don't have an owner's manual you can download one from the HD website.
