Default Throttle cable broke

It broke at the throttle handle (see picture). Is this an easy fix or do I have the change the whole cable?

Looks like the ferrule at the end of the cable broke off, if yes you need to replace the entire cable. Is it the throttle cable or the Nanny State return cable? You can live without the return cable. The closest one to you when seated on the bike is your throttle cable, the one to the front of the bike is the return cable. Good luck.

It is the one to the front of the bike. But I couldn't throttle, the throttle handle was just loose. So I had to get the biked towed home.

Probably best to replace as stated above and inspect the other cable end for wear/abrasion. Cables are about $30.00 US. each.

As stated, if one broke it's time to replace them both.
You'll be in there anyway and you'll know you're dealing with new cables.
The labors pretty much the same, just a second cable to buy.

Okay! Thanks for the answers.
Also anybody knows how long these cables lasts? It seems a bit strange it would break like this? I thought it would last "forever"

1. Year & Model of the bike?
2. How many miles?
3. Any changes to handlebars or modifications/rerouting of cables?
4. Adjusted correctly?
5. They last a long time if lubed, adjusted, and routed correctly.

1. Risers on the handlebars could make the cables a touch too short when turning fork lock to fork lock.
2. May want to check to see if there is any binding of the cables when the front fork is turned.
3. If any binding or the cables seem tight, it may be worthwhile to get extended cables.
4. If no tightness or binding go with OEM.
5. Extended cables are available at many locations:

You will probably have many opinions and suggestions presented; make sure you research the person providing the helpful information as there are some who provide good information that is useful and some who speak out of other orifices with gibberish. You will figure out this quickly.

On my FLHTC the front cable opens the throttle and the one on the back(close to you ) is the return cable. Which way do you turn your twist grip?
