2006 street bob torque spec questions
This is where you get into trouble because you are not following a service manual, the forums have numerous posts about rear belt sprockets coming loose and ruining the wheel, mostly because the people doing the job did not follow the proper process.
It`s time to tell your grandson to buy a genuine Harley Davidson Service Manual.
OP: Use new bolts on the rear sprocket.
The axle takes an "E" clip, not a cotter pin.
Rear axle nut 92-98 ft-lbs 124.7-132.9 Nm page 2-15
Belt sprocket screws 55-65 ft-lbs 74.6-88.1 Nm page 2-13
For rear sprocket bolts always use NEW hardware and always thread chase the holes make sure threads are CLEAN.
IMO I use red loctite and go over the stated torque in the service manual and go to 75 ft-lbs...
@CenCalJack : Don`t over torque the sprocket retaining bolts.

def not bad advice but you are entitled to your own opinion sir.
Rear pulley bolts were known to back out. decided to bust out the more modern 2015 street bob service manual and it states Rear sprocket screws-final torque 67-73 ft-lbs 90.9-99.0 Nm 2.5 REAR WHEEL, Assembly
Do what you will but at 75 ft-lbs you wont have a problem if you have solid grade 8 hardware and a properly calibrated torque wrench.

Your bike, your call.....
FWIW...
The 2007 sprocket bolts #3109, come with lock patch on the threads. The torque spec in the manual takes that lock patch into account.
By adding red loctiite on your own, you are adding a lubricant (wet locktite) to the threads, which usually requires a 20% decrease to a dry torque spec.
You choose to increase the factory torque spec after adding a lubricant to the threads. You are most likely over torquing the sprocket bolts. That can sometimes be worse than under torquing.

True! I gave the factory torque specs from the manual and also my opinion. OP can do what he wants at the end of the day. I was simply saying what worked/works for me. Installed a few pulleys and sprockets on different wheels be it my own or buddies and have always done red and 75 with no issues. Not saying its right just what i do.
One thing I will say tho regardless what torq you end up using I would suggest using a way to mark the bolt heads against the pulley and check them on your pre ride. Cheers guys!
