Default Motor mount question 2017 Street Bob

I’m not sure how to tell if my rubber motor isolators are bad since this is my first Dyna. 2017 Street Bob with 13,000 miles. While riding it’s smooth but when slowing to a stop it feels like the motor is rocking pretty good. No handling problems it corners like a champ. I’ve seen other rubber mounted engines idling that looked like it was going to jump out of the frame; mine moves while idling but not that bad so I’m not sure where I stand with this. Any advice would be appreciated.

Get down on your hands and knees and look at the front mount. Its pretty easy to see if its sagging or torn, and being yours is about 10 years old, it likely is.

So is the front mount usually the first one to need replacing? I haven’t had a chance to check em out yet but since there’s no handling issues is the front mount the usual suspect?

Like @Bubba Zanetti said, get down and look at it. Is it covered in oil, grease and crap? Non-cautious owners will not take good care of that area and that is a prime, hard to clean area where oil gets dumped during an oil change. The oil buildup will have a negative effect on the rubber over time as will, sun, heat, humidity. Has it been stored inside, or has it been outside in the sun, rain, etc.? If it were my bike, at 10years and 13k miles I'd replace the front and back mounts and align the engine. It's not hard to do if you have the right tools.

I'm sure there are photos posted in some of the older threads on the subject, but, the front mount has a domed spot on the top center of the rubber portion and if it is touching the metal "T" shaped bracket that bolts to the engine then the front mount is collapsed.

A collapsed front mount shifts the powertrain aft and stresses the rear mount. If it isn't new you are probably better off to replace it as well.

I don’t know if you can tell if the front mount is bad or not from the pics but they look good to me but I’m no expert lol.

Pretty sure the circled area is what @John CC is talking about, is there a gap there? Either way man, I have SEVERE OCD and I could not ride that bike like that, give it some love and clean it up. You take good care of it, it'll take good care of you!

Well there’s definitely a gap between the rubber and the metal so I guess it’s okay. What do you think?

You seriously need to fix that. Nothing in this life is perfect. OCD will suck the joy out of your life. BTDT.
