A couple of people mentioned gel gloves. I never wore gloves except in cold weather until my brother gave me a pair of fingerless padded gloves. I don't know if the padding is gel or not. He had been telling me how great they were and I wasn't interested, so he finally bought me a pair. THEY MAKE RIDING MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE! I haven't been on a trip since I got them, but, around town my hands never get numb. By the way I already had Iso grips.
I get the numbness a lot, but its due to a pinched nerve in my back. A lot depends on how you sit, I notice sometimes at my desk it happens when I slouch then that familiar tingle starts to happen. Wierd thing is, I can feel it in my armpit, too, like something's pulling in there just before my fingers go numb. Gloves have helped a lot, so does relaxing grip on the grips. I just chalk it up to one of those pleasureable experiences I get when I ride and go from there
I have a 2006 Street Bob, my mini apes(stock bars) at an angle that is pretty much in line with the down tubes of my forks. I have not experienced the problems that you are. As said before, try adjusting the levers or even the bars a little.
I can't add much to what already's been said but an inexpensive device that helped a hell of a lot is a throttle rocker. Also,if you still have them thin stock grips on your bike get rid of 'em and get some fatter ones. Adjust your brake and clutch grips, making sure that you get a comfy squeeze. Gel gloves. Just gotta keep tryin' till something works for ya.
I had that prblem for awhile. I changed the position of my handle bars. I pulled them towards me just a little and that solved the problem. It dosn't take much.
