If they offer to buy me a soft tail I'll take it if I am paying I buy what I like. If they are confused then they are ignorant not me. Hey is that a Soft Tail or a Glide?

If I studied it right, the Dyna used to be a Sportster with a larger frame and engine. The frame was still not like a larger bike and I believe the forks and tubes were the same as the Sporty til 2005? Then the tubes went to the larger size and the frame was also redone to be stiffer and more capable.
In 2006 the Dyna got the 96 and in 2007 the six speed. When all of the upgrades were done what had already been a great bike was a very serious motorcycle if desired, and those of us desire.

Tom
You didn't study it right. Dynas were never "a Sportster with a larger frame." The Dynas did use the narrow-glide front end up through 2005, but that's really about the only thing they had truly in common with the Sportster. Otherwise - different frame, engine, transmission, tank, seats, etc.

Softail riders quickly become unconfused, when my lighter, more nimble Super Glide blows them away...

You had it close songsmith, but the Dyna line only was the first to line to get the 6-speed trans, 49 mmlegs, and beefed up frame,in '06. Then in '07 came the 96ci accross the board, as well as the expansion of the 6-speed to the other lines (among other things).

Up to and through '05, yes, the FXD, FXDC, and other FXD bikes pretty much shared the same front end (and a few other misc parts)with the XL line, but different frames, trans, motor, etcfor obvious reasons.

I've only gotten the "is that a sportster?" question once, and thankfully, the conversation did end with compliments all around.

I really do like my bike the way it is now. But (there's always a "but") I am considering moving to a touring bike for the both of us. That's why the Street Glide and Road King are attractive to me.

I got my first bike in the late 1960's when I was like 5....yamaha mini enduro.....probabley 25 or more dirt bikes since then....and seveal metric road bikes.......anyway my SB is kinda simple, raw, old school as with the Dyna line.....outboard rear shocks just like I had on my first dirt bike in the 60's......its simple and easy to ride and I can jump on it at any time and knock out a 3, 4, or 500 mile run with minimal gear along and I love it.

Was at a dealer open house Saturday and there were hundreds of bikes. It seems anyone with a Softail thinks Dynas are Sporters. Does anyone else run into this? I just find their ignorance annoying.
You may find there ignorance annoying, but I find it amusing. Don't educate them, play them. It's that much more fun.
I like it...!
