Default big vs short shots

I'm torn between the big shot and short shot staggered for my 07 Bob. I like the look of both pipes so i thought i'd ask the folks on the forum for their opinions or experience. I have a friend who has the Big Shots on his 03 SG and they sound awesome. Plus the power chamber design is a nice touch. I haven't heard the short shot staggereds yet.. my brother had the old short shots on his nighttrain and they were loud as hell. But i do love how the new black shortys look. Another plus for the shortys is the price... though it's not that big of a difference so i guess it doesn't matter. My main concern with the shortys is riding 2 up.. isn't all that noise going to get dumped onto my poor wife in the back?

what is everyone's experience with these 2 pipes?

Thoughts? Opinions?

Love my Short Shots w/Quiet baffles (loud and low), but hardly hear them when going 55+ mph due to wind noise, but everyone else does - LOL! No experience two-up.

Both are great pipes, but from what I am told you will tend to gain a little bit more performance out of the Big 'uns. Quite honestly, this wasn't a big issue for me and I prefered the shorties cause no around here runs 'em and I like being different.

Price is nice too.............

i really love how the black shortys look. i guess i'll have to look on you tube and see if i can "hear" what they'll sound like.

How much of a difference did the quiet baffles make?

Short shots here....no regrets would do it again in a heartbeat. More of a "hotrod" look in my opinion. Cant go wrong either way.....good luck.

My first set of replacement pipes on my Dyna were V&H Big Shot Staggered. I changed them out for a set of Sideshots, which I like even better than the BS Staggereds. Here are a couple of shots with both pipes installed.

Not much in overall dB, but they lower the tone, less raspy/tinny sounding in my experience. More of that harley rumble. Have heard they are a bit more free flowing and thus maybe a little more torque/hp?? Haven't seen any specs on this though.

Chip, thanks for the perspective. The one thing i didnt like when i had my old Big Shot Classics was that it was very tinny/ raspy. It didn't have that deep toned rumble. The same could be said for my brothers old short shots (un-staggered). Maybe now with the advent of the quiet baffles this could change. The raspy tin sound just doesn't evoke the "this is a harley" sound to me.

Oh and on another note... your bike is sweet! how much work was it to get the gators on there?

ehretja - Thanks for the compliment! It's not too bad to install the gators - a little tight (which is a good thing IMO) and needed to cut them down a bit. Had forks off bike anyway to replace with powdercoated ones and was putting in new Progressive springs, so no hassle there. Others (Special Ed I believe) used Triumph 2" diameter boots and didn't need any mods. I used Daystar series 408 boots that are 49mm dia. for Showa shocks, so they basically are made for forks like '06-'07 dynas.
