Street Bob 2008 - Progressive 812HD shocks install issue

I have just purchased a Progressive 812 HD shock absorbers for my 2008 model Street Bob.
Following the enclosed instruction (and HD service manual), I have removed the factory shock absorbers.
I have than attempted to install both shock absorbers by utilising the enclosed Hex bolts/spacersfor the top mount and original HD bolts for the lower mount.

However the top mount bolts/spacers are not suitable as they do not allow shock absorber to maintain the same angle between top mount and the swingarm. Nevertheless, utilising original HD bolt, the shocks mounts without any problem.
My question to you is whether I should be utilising the original HD mounting hardware (including the top mount bolts) or am I doing something wrong?
Cheers
Vlad

If you need to move it away from the strut, you can probably get some washers...to move itcloser you'd either need a newthinner spacer on top or possibly space the bottom out a little. I'm assuming you want them to be perfectly straight up and down and either method would work.
I don't really think it would hurt much if they weren't perfectly straight up and down...not sure though. I should check mine since I've changed them also.
I would get back with Progressive and ask them to send
the proper spacer and bolt.
I guess you paid for Chrome spacers.

I have attached the photos of the bolts and the spacer they want me to use instead of the original HD.
If I replace the large HD spacer (shown with the red arrow) with the included Progressive spacer, the shock will have no support and will rest agains the rear fender.
so either something is missing in the kit or Progressive have a incorrect instruction.
I hope someone here who installed similar kit will shed some light on this.

When I ordered the Progressive kit,
I've specifically asked for it to be suitable for 2008 Street Bob.

Surely not from a reputable supplier.
Have you called them on this issue??
Looks like farm grade fasteners, can't tell for sure with these pix.
Go ahead and stay with the HD fasteners and spacers.

Actually I bought the shocks from Zanotti motors who have been praised much on this forum.
I have got in touch with Progressive support via email and here is their reply:
(the photos included in the previous post are the e-marked bolts and b-marked spacers). So either the person responded doesn't know about different requirements for SB 2008 or I am doing something drastically wrong!
" On that modal you use the long E marked bolt, in conjunction with the b marked spacers between the button head and the shock eye.

Sounds like the top mount of the new shocks are a different thickness than the stockers.

No respect![:@]

What still bothers me is that Progressive insists that I need to use their mounting hardware which clearly doesn't work here.
I just want the shock to mount/work as they havedesigned it to work. But AFAIK it only works with the original HD mounts.
I will pursue this matter until Progressive come back to me with the explanation that makes sense!

How does it ride? Does it feel like the slight angle is an issue?
If there is no binding or rubbing then you are probably OK.
I've got the bagger lowering air shocks and everything seems ok on mine.
However I am still actively talking to Progressive since I would like a valid explanation or an updated instruction. Afterall, company should stand by their product and provide your "everyday" buyer with a proper "working" instruction
