FXD Bars
I'm looking to add 1-2" height and 1-2" pullback to a 2007 FXD Superglide. Not having much luck a local HD dealer. Risers change the pitch of the speedo and it looks funny. Any suggestions like which replacemant bar might do the same without getting into changing all the wiring. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. The FXD is my 1st bike and whilemy riding season was short (I got the bike the end of August) I managed 2200 miles.
Thanks Dan
Thanks Dan
Get bars with the demensions you are looking for. Messing with the risers on the older SGs is a pain. I scrapped the whole setup on mine and went with a Dakota digital speedo/tach when I put Street Slammers on it. I ran that for a year and a half and put apes on it. If I would have put apes on to begin with I could have saved a lot of money and headaches. I put 12" apes on my wife's SG and they are about the dimensions you are describing, but they are about 3" wider.
Dan, you have several options, none of which are super easy or super cheap.
The easiest is a set of risers especially for the FXD. They give you 4" of rise and 2" of pullback, but are milled flat at the top so the speedo will still sit at it original 35 degree angle. These are available through J & P Cycles and cost about 150.00.
Another option, and the one I chose is to change to mini-apes like the ones on the Street Bob. in order to do this, you have to change your cables and brake lines. Not a terribly hard job, but it does take some time. These may be found as take-offs normally for under $100.00 for the bars and cables. The stock wiring is just long enough to allow you to do this mod.
There are companies who manufacture speedo brackets which mount on the base of the riser instead at the top. These brackets take the pullback bend of the riser out of play, therefore the speedo sits at it original angle. They also run about150.00.

Dan I changed out my tank to get speedo off bars. Got the stuff off ebay and Zanotti still was not cheap. A couple of guys have used 1200 custom riser and speedo set-up and it looks nice. Do a search there is alot of info.

Hey smileyelite Im in the process of changing my tank too. Im just curious what all was involved in it for you? problems? I picked up a 07 glide custom tank and consolefrom a member of this site, I need some more parts- ign switch and a new speedo are the biggees I need yet!
mmontgomery I went with a Street bob tank and everything switched over speedo etc. I had to get fuel guage and console and gas cap. Best thing is to get a parts manual and see what you need. I took my time and found most stuff on ebay and the rest from Zanotti's. The custom tank is a different animal but I'm sure it can be done. Do a search called " moved my speedo from the bars" or something thats what I used.
