I have a 2007 lowrider .It seems to runvery hot ! i bought it to the dealer and told them that the bike runs hot .they told me thats nomal .If i want to it run cooler and get better perfomance to put Stage1 in it ! So i did, with Vance and Hindes Big raduis Exhaust !
Still not much improvement . Next i guess i'll try Mbil 1 at my one at my 1000 mile service ~
My Question is the big bore even worth the money ? will i see a noticeable difference in Performance or will it be a Waste of money like the stage 1 ? What can i do to Cool the motor down ? I could cook hotdogs on the motor after and hour . And by the way my Gas mileage sucks big time ! Is this nomal ? My 2006 wasnt this hotor bad with gas.I know the EPA . I really want my Bike to be faster ! See ya on the Streets ! Thanks For any advise or Answers to my ?
If you want it run cooler you need to do something like a Vance Hines fuel pak or something similiar to richen it up. However if it running hot because it is to lean you should get around 50mpg when cruizing.
If the stage 1 didn't fix it you may have an intake leak(like the previous poster said) get the bike checked out because excessive heat after a stage 1 is not normal.
Robert .. have an 07 Low Rider myself.. and yes the bigger 96' runs somewhat hotter than the older 88... bigger equals more heat, and lower gas mileage... so much so that I added anHD Oil Cooler, and oil dipstick LCD temp gauge, helped a few degrees butstill she will fry the thighs on a hot day sitting in traffic... I use Mobil One V-Twin Syn in engine andprimary, RedlineHeavySyn Gear Oil in tranny.. still all runs within specs and plugs are burning normal... I'm believin' itsjust the nature of the beast...as for a big bore kit... my question is why... if ya wanted to ride ridiculous speed (and cooler) you oughta trade in for a crotch rocket !... just a side note... went in to talk with a very knowledgeableHD mechanic in town... and inundated him with questions and concerns... finally he had had all he could take and said.. " ED.. that new ride with the 96 andEFI is the best Harley has put out in years... quit second quessing it, stop wondering if thisor that would be better, letHarley worry about it for the next two yearsuntil the warranty runs out, and until then.. just RIDE !... just ENJOY THE RIDE !.. and then just RIDE SOME MORE !!!..." That waseleven thousand plus miles ago,and just a few oil changes... not a single breakdown or trouble ... gonna throw another 160stock HD tire on the rear... and do another 11K... and most importantly just concentrate on the experience, the places and the people.. Respectfully, Ed H Va Bch.
When you say stage 1 are you talking about the download? because I don't think that alone would be enough to compensate for the Vance an Hines pipes and a less restrictive AC if you've got that. Before you spring for a big bore kit you might want to get a SERT or PC3 and get it tuned with a dyno. That and a good synthetic oil will make it run cooler but it'll still be pretty hot compared with anything liquid cooled.I've got a TC88, I'm running Mobile 1, I've got wrapped pipes, and I've had it tuned on a dyno.Out of everything I've mentioned so far the dyno tune made the most difference. It still gets unpleasant sitting at a light on a hot day.
