New to forum, suspension question?
First Harley, many other bikes, don't hold that against me.
I have a 2008 Super Glide, I ride solo 100% of the time, my weight is 220#. I'm 5" 9" with a 29" inseam.
Bike has HD mounted sadlebags as the extraweight.
I amlooking to change my rear suspension, lower it a little from stock, but do not want to sacrifice smooth ride for touring.
My riding style is not aggressive anymore in life, asI tend to enjoy the ride. While I do enjoy country backroads and mountain twisties, I am not challenging them like I used to 40 years ago.
I have been reading the the Heavy Duty shocks are for people over 225#, butare very stiff, and also that if I lower to an 11" shock, this will also tend to be stiff and I will feel all the bumps and potholes.
In conclusion, I'm seeking a recommendation to lower my bike a little to be flat footed (about 1"to 2" lower would be nice), but not sacrifice a smooth ride. Is this at all possible?
Thanks to everyone.
I would like to spend some of my retirement on the road riding my new bike.
But I'm not surethat I am prepared tospend all of my retirement money for shocks.
I may have been looking at the wrong items, but whenI used a search engine on the internet, I nearly fell out of my chair on pricing of these items.
I did not realize that lowering the bike and a smooth ride would be such a large investment.
Perhaps there could be another alternative?

?????????????????????????
These chrome air shocks are $128 at http://www.easternperformance.com/:

Are you seriously looking to spend less than that?????????
If so, then you need a different hobby..........PRONTO!
The shocks I was lead to were in the $1200 to $1800 range.
I was willing to spend in the range of $250, plus or minus a little.
Perhaps I am not as savy as some witha computor.
I'm finally starting to get the hang of a remote control for a television.
Be kind to an old fart like me, before you know it, you'll be where I am.
Thank you for your input. I will try to find the ones shown above.

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
I look at it this way, you only live once. I told my father this, and now he wants to take it for a ride. I don't see that happening, he can get his own bike.
Coming off a jap bike, I didn't realize there was so much involved to get the bike comfortable.
I just thought while making the bike more comfortable to ride, I could make it easier for me to have my feet planted on the ground.
Lowering is not the biggest priority, while taking care of my butt and back are.
I just want to be comfortable for long rides, asI plan to do this when the weather breaks.
Mr. Rounder, thank you for the welcome, my father lives near you, perhaps he can take your bike for a ride instead.
OK, maybe I thought that was funnier than it really is.
Thanks for the tip, This is a whole new world for me, luckily my great grand kids show me things too.
So I'm guessing that the only alternative, shouldI choose better comfort, is an air shock?
Are they easy to install?
Thanks again
I did not see the above shocks when searching the internet.

BornAgain2, you didn't mention the prices that you were looking at ($1200-$1800).....That is on the high side for sure.
Here's a direct link to Eastern Performance (a sponser on this site) and those air shocks mentioned above:
