Default Thinking about getting the Chrome engine kit

I've been pondering getting the chrome engine kit for my '07 FXD.Thekitruns about $700 and I was wondering about installation. Is this something that a novice can install or should I pay the dealer to install.

So far the only things I have installed are small projects like; console, grips, highway pegs, and the running lights.

Any ideas

first - if you buy this frome chicago hd you can get it for under 600
but then of course you have to put it on yourself.

my dealer wanted $700 for the install - no thanks.

the lower rocker covers will require more work than just bolting on - but most covers are straightforward.

if you do it yourself - tackle the pieces you know you can handle first - get some confidence - no rule about doing it all at once.

Get a service manual and research the work involved installing the chrome components. Then you can decide if you want toinstall the whole kit or if you just want to take on certain pieces.

Thanks for the info and advice. The service manual has to be my next purchase. I felt violated after the 1000 mile service.

I spent less than $275.00 on the primary, cam, and transmission side covers. Found them from various sources in the classifieds here and on eBay. Each of them were easy installs and I feel they really dressed up the motor.

I imagine the rocker covers and the lifter covers would be the hardest ones to do if you don't know any better. but if you get a manual and take your time it shouldn't be too tough.

then again I don't know what skill you have, just cause anybody can work on a harley donsn't mean everybody should work on a harley.

I'd just do what somebody else said and start with the primary, cam, tranny side and go slow.

I have that kit on my wish list too. I am thinking about getting the 95" upgrade (on an '05) and getting the kit at the same time because the shop time costs should overlap.

No rocker covers here, just a little elbow grease on original equipment.

Kit includes the rocker housing and rocker cover, tappet cover, outer primary, derby cover, cam cover, transmission top and side cover and all necessary gaskets.
