Default 3 Rear shock adjustment questions...

1. If you soften the shocks to lowest setting will it lower the bike?
2. Which is the softest setting ? 1 or 5?
3. Do you need a spanner wrench to do this or could it be done by hand?

Thanks for letting be be a lazy azz. I'm sure the answers are there if I get up off my azz.

The "1" setting is the least amount of preload. The bike should ride lower with your weight but may not sit lower when you're off the bike. The downside of running too little preload is bottoming out the shock.

What ssls6 said, most of the time you need a spanner.

Ditto but also. I asked this recently on a post and it really helped. GET the wrench. I did at an HD dealer- ten bucks. someone suggested doing it by hand or with a strap wrench. If your out get one it makes it a snap. Turn the bottom barrel counter-clock(if your behind the bike) and when it pops into the "1" setting it really pops. On my fxdb the teeth on the shock have a barrel around it that kind of hides it all but you can look up it and see what I mean.

Yes it will make it lower.
Mine came set at 1 the lowest setting I guess because the guys that set up the bike thought that looked the coolest, it rode like crap.It bottomed out so fast it felt like a rigid.I felt like the stock Street Bob shocks worked best one notch down from the max.And yes you should get a wrench.

Never ride with a setting of one. You will bottom out on bumps. It will make a world of difference to go up the" ladder " in settings. Everyone has there own opinions on what they have, only you will know after you ride. BUY THE TOOL.........
