Do any of you use oneofthe H-D quick release detachable windshields? I am thinkiing of purchasing one for my 2006 FXD35I, but wanted to gather some opinions from you folksbefore Imake the decision. Thanks!
I have one on my 07 FXD, not needed in town, over 45 - 55 mph I think it's a must unless you have a full face helmet. Just look at the windshield after a night ride on the interstate definitely a BUG catcher The instructions say to relocate the clutch cable so it (the cable )doesn't get pinched. I never touched the cable just left is where it was.
It doesn't take long to put together out of the box, after that it only takes 10sec to snap on or off your ride..........as for me it's a must
I have the detatchable Super Sport for my WG and love it. No steel bars across the shield so you don't really notice it on the bike. I will only use it for 100mi plus highway trips though. I'm still young/stupid/vain enough to play tough-guy and ride without it most of the time. I actually only own one because wifey hates riding with me without it. Hey, that's the only reason for the two up seat and backrest also. Gotta make her get her own bike and quit junkn' up mine.[:@]
I said I would NEVER have a windshield. Never say never.[sm=bangbang.gif]
I bought the QD 4 months ago. Haven't taken it off to ride yet.
I just got back from a rain ride a few minutes ago. I removed the QD WS in 4 seconds tops. She (my wife) held it and I dried it and the forks. Put it back on in 3 seconds. Great shield... no hardware on bike and no rattles. I love my Quick Detach! Some of the best $325 I spent so far!
I've got the HD 58346-06 compact QD on my Bob and love it. As others have said, it's not needed around town but when on the Interstate it's (for me) an absolute necessity.
